I recently had the most revealing Hacking Reality session with deb svanefelt. It was centred around a stored trauma that occurred because of an auto accident in 1992. deb was perfect at explaining how the session would proceed and guided me each step of the way. She was so calm, reassuring and exuded the confidence I needed to go through the session. Through her guidance, I was able to connect with myself at the age I was at the time of the accident and to release the trauma I experienced at that time, as well as imprint a new story ending that was acceptable for me. It’s been incredible how detached I now feel around that event! I highly recommend deb for her work related to stored trauma with the use of EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique).
What to Expect in a Session
Unlike in talk therapy, in our sessions you are free to either share the specifics of the content you wish to tap on – or not. And you don’t need to have clarity about why you feel the way you do, or what ‘caused’ this situation (although you may be clear about this too).
If all you have is a symptom, that’s great.
If all you have is a vague sense of a past memory that may be involved, that’s perfectly ok too.
Sometimes (maybe often) the specifics are hidden behind a wall of protection, to keep us safe (from our unconscious point of view). That’s why sometimes, what appears to us as we’re tapping might seem kinda wacky or nonsensical. It’s ok. It always makes sense to our unconscious. And tapping helps us find the sense in it too, and to release it, gently and supportively. Tapping speaks directly to your brain and your subconscious, where the blocks are held.
We will be working together in collaboration. You are the best expert on you. And I bring the tools.
The Nuts ‘n Bolts…
Together, we will assist you in clearing out whatever the old story is, to release it.
First, we will explore your symptoms – what you think, feel and believe about them. We’ll tap on what you’ve shared. Then, we’ll review how you’re feeling after a round or two of tapping. Then we’ll do some more tapping based on what you’ve shared in the review. Sometimes, a memory surfaces (even fleetingly). Then we may shift to Hacking Reality to tap on that memory.
In order to be most helpful and efficacious, we will be tapping on the ‘negative’ aspects of your old story/belief/thought/feeling. Does this draw more of the negative to you (in a Law of Attraction way)? No. It just helps us see what the negative hooks are for you, that are already ‘there’ and keep you in patterns of re-enactment and resistance to change. The affirmation guru Louise Hay once said about tapping on the negative – “you cannot clean a house until you first see the dirt.”
When we are tapping on your negative thoughts, beliefs and feelings, we are speaking directly to your unconscious, where the negative thoughts/beliefs and feelings are stored. When we tap at the same time, we are telling your central nervous system that you are safe, even while supportively exposing these negative aspects.
Once we have cleared space from the negative story, and neutralized the emotional ‘hook’, there is now ‘space’ for tapping in the ‘positives.’
In tapping sessions, this process allows us to shift our awareness into new ways of perceiving the old experience and affirming something new.
In Hacking Reality sessions, your Younger Self chooses a preferred ‘ending’ to the experience, and this is re-imprinted into you as your New Story. Either way, you experience tangible and real shifts that profoundly affect your day-to-day life.
Did I mention that, unlike talk therapy which can sometimes feel challenging or difficult, tapping and Hacking Reality are gentle, client-led, supportive, easy and – yes – even fun sessions (especially the Hacking Reality ones, where it’s amazing what shows up and how it helps us transform). Our unconscious really is incredibly creative and quite focused on helping us survive. With both tapping and Hacking Reality, we align our conscious with the incredible creative power of our unconscious – allowing us to experience greater coherence between them. This creates new space for us to thrive in new ways, rather than just to survive the old ways.
With EFT we can clear the emotion that’s held in an old story. With Hacking Reality we actually change the outcome of the memory – it’s like shifting into an alternate timeline. The old memory is still there, but there’s absolutely no ‘juice’ in it anymore. The new reality is filled with new life-force and new possibilities.

It’s a fantastic quote by Ms. Winfrey. But the real question is: how do we fundamentally – and permanently – change an attitude (or a belief or feeling) we have held onto for a long time? The older the belief or attitude, the ‘stickier’ it is to release and change it.
I’ve known many people who’ve spent thousands of dollars on talk therapy, and in the end did not really feel substantially different from when they began. Sure, it’s lovely to have someone listen attentively, who supports and encourages us forward. But that doesn’t necessarily equate with creating actual changes in how you perceive and experience life.
Tapping (and Hacking Reality) can create real shifts in how you experience yourself and your day-to-day life. It can change how you perceive and experience life. This is not just a tool to help you learn to cope with your suffering, to learn to live with it; to distract yourself or help you avoid the problem. These tools are about changing the way you experience reality. Permanently.
Stepping out of your old, limiting, conditioned stories and into your own authenticity, is a step that profoundly changes you and how you show up in the world with your gifts and talents.
This also means that your commitment to yourself – to transforming aspects of you that no longer fit – also changes the world. We become the change we all want to see in the world. Which reminds me of a quote by the humanist psychologist Carl Rogers,
“The only person who is educated is the one who has learned how to learn and change.”
